President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has ordered the freezing of the account of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority.

Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Wleh-Badio said the action was a result of reports of excessive spending at the LTA.

According to Mr. Badio, information before the President shows the LTA Board was spending excessively under a budget that is yet to be approved. 

The order, contained in a letter to a LTA Board, said the freeze will be in force until unfolding situation at the LTA is settled.  Mr. Badio told reporters other actions including organizational changes are expected. 

The LTA has, of late, experienced serious division and claims and counter-claims of corruption, which some say has led to poor performance at the entity.
