Dr. J. Stefan Walker said he was asked by the administrator of the Greater Love Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia, to head up a vocational nursing program at the hospital, which he first learned about through a Woodsboro resident working in the area.

The event, sponsored by Furman’s Riley Institute, will be held at 4 p.m. at McAlister Auditorium, according to spokesman Vince Moore.

 

A New Liberian Newsletter Hits Newsstand in Minnesota

A new Liberian community newsletter called “The Liberian People’s News” is expected to hit the newsstand soon, according to the Liberian Journal News Online, quoting Mr. Benoni Tarr Grimes, publisher of the People-to-People Media Network, plans for rolling out the maiden edition have been concluded with the Dwamina Group, a Liberian media and publishing firm based in Minnesota.

 

Sankawulo Finally Laid to Rest

images-1.jpgThe remains of professor Wilton Sankawulo, former Chairman of the erstwhile National Transitional Government of Liberia (NTGL) was yesterday, March 17, 2009 laid to rest near his home in Gardnersville, outside Monrovia.
The former transitional chairman died on February 21, 2009 at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor after a brief period of illness.


The funeral service of professor Sankawulo, who until his death, served as professor of English and literature at the University of Liberia (UL) was held at the historic Centennial Pavilion on Ashumun street, Monrovia

In 1964, the decade of the civil-rights movement, his solution to America's "Negro problem" was "Send them back to Africa." He may get his wish in 2009, although it masquerades as a different problem. 

America, a great nation that prides itself as the land of freedom and opportunity — which it has been for refugees from the Liberian civil war — now wants to solve its immigration problem by sending legal, educated, tax-paying people back to their country of origin in Africa.
