Did Kerper Dwanyen unite or polarize the OLM community
A special commentary

It is often said harmony is the strength of any society. A community where there is harmony, bound to succeed.  kerpeh.jpgWhere there is discord, can anything substantial be achieved? Certainly not! The more dangerous thing is placing the community in the hands of a polarizing figure.

A unifier is a person who brings people together. He puts his people or the community first. He leads by example and demonstrates a high level of magnanimity and nobility. Saint Francis of Assisi said, “Where there is hatred, he sows love; where there is injury, he pardons; where there is despair, he restores hope; where there is darkness, he provides light; and where there is sadness, he gives joy.” Can a polarizing figure bring about unity?

One of the key promises Kerper Dwanyen made during the elections… was that he was going to unite the community. He projected himself as a  “great unifier.” Who would unify the community upon assuming the mantle of leadership? He sweet-talked the people in believing him; hence, he was voted into office.

Not long after assuming the presidency, Mr. Dwanyen   wasted no time in projecting his real self. He began to employ one of the most devisive tactics ever know in the history of OLM. His ill-advised decision to sue some prominent members of the community, including his predecessor, Mrs. Martha Sinoe, and the Chairman of the 2007 Elections Commission, Mr. Francis Zayzay, amongst several others, is a classic example of Mr. Dwanyen’s polarizing posture.

He wanted to sue every one who may have opposed him during the election. It was only after he realized that everything that was said about him during the elections period was factual, he folded up his tail and sat down. The next sinister thing on his agenda was to pursue a trump-up frivolous charge against Mr. Zayzay under the pretence of “financial accountability, “only to settle political scores. His pettiness could not allow him to reach out.  Today, the OLM community is far divided then he met it. He has done nothing to unify, but everything to further divide the community.

In the recent American elections like all elections things were thrown at the candidates. For his Barack Obama had several things, some true and lot of them false, about him.  At the end of the elections when he was declared the winner, he invited his former election opponents for discussion. Some of them he gave position in his government. He demonstrated magnanimity and nobility. He did not go about taking every to court.
But for Kerper Dwanyen, it was time to settle scores. How can such a polarizing figure unite this community? No one who is vindictive can unite. He is too pre-occupied with getting even with his would-be enemies.

Here is the man who is suing the election chairman for what he calls financial accountability, but he is bitterly opposed to check and balance in the OLM. As such, he maliciously refers to the constitutionally mandated Board of Directors as “Advisory Board.” The OLM constitution calls for the Chairman of the Board to be signatory to the Organization’s account, but he acrimoniously refuses for that to happen. At the same time, he’s offensively paid himself $1000.00 of the organization’s funds for non-contractual rent or the approval of the board; He has viciously misappropriated funds raise by various churches in community solely for the DED or immigration and cannot account for over $12,000; funds being disbursed and used without any budgetary approval, just to list a few.

The question is did Kerper Dwanyen unite or polarize the OLM Community? Can you call him a “unifier?” Did he live up to his campaign promises. Not by an estimation. He is in a “divider and terrible polarizing figure! As the 2009 election period is around the corner, what kind of leader should we be looking for? Someone with the necessary skills and mind -set to bring people together. It is about time that the community starts the search.  It cannot be Kerper Dwanyen. He has miserably failed on every count of his campaign promises.
