Bentol
Citizens in the United States hold Major Event in Minnesota By PNN Staff Reporter The Bentol City Development Association, (BENDA) has elected a corps of officials
to lead the organization for the next three years. Those elected to the executive are, Mr. M. Dave Parker, President, Hon. Edward William
Carter, Jr., First Vice President for Administration, Mr. Nicolas M. Sheriff, 2nd Vice President for Operations, Mrs., Nutu
Brent –Peal, Secretary General, and Mr. David M. Parker, Sr. Treasurer. Also elected was a 17-man
Board of directors. Among those elected to the Board of Directors are; Dr. Mark William Andrew Holder,
Chairperson, Reverend Olive Carter-Boyce, Vice Chairperson, Mr. D. Franklin Tolbert, Member, Mr.
Nehemiah Brent, member, Mr. George Parker, Jr. Member, Mrs. Alberta Garnett, Member and Mr. Milton Boyce,
member. Others are, Professor Lester Hall,
member, Mrs. Lorraine Bailey-Mator, Member, Dr. Rita Padmore, member, Mrs. Alberta Garnett, member, Mrs. Thelma Gardiner,
Member, Mr. Ivin Porte, member, Mr. Isaac Yoryor, member, and Mrs. Clavenda Varfley, member, amongst others.
Also elected was a board of advisors, headed
by Dr. Wilhelmina Tolbert-Holder, as Chairperson. The Bentol Development Association (BENDA), a non-profit community-based
organization was recently founded by the citizens and friends of the City of Bentol, Montserrado County, and R.L living in
the Diaspora. According
to the Organization’s mission statement, it primarily focus is to provide assistance to its members and Liberians in
general in the areas of health care and education. The organization will also create opportunities for jobs creation, reconstruction,
and tourism as well as fostering and encouraging the spirit of self-reliance and self-sufficiency amongst the citizens and
residents of Bentol in partnership with non-governmental agencies and other charitable organizations. The iterninary release issued by the Vice President-elect of the organizatio n, Mr. Edward W. Carter, Jr, indicates
that the three day festivity commences on Friday, May 22 with a “Meet & Greet” event at1440 McAfee Street, in Saint Paul. On Saturday, May 23 the main event and the Installation Dinner Ball will be held at the Martin Luther King, Jr Center at 270 Kent Street in St. Paul.There will be a thanksgiving and intercessory service on Sunday, May 23 at
the Christ Universal Church in Minneapolis to be followed by the farewell barbeque and cook-out. The event is expected
to draw a record crowd from all over the United States. Bentol is a small township in Montserrado County in Liberia.
It was made capital city of Montserrado during the late William R. Tolbert regime. The city is located in northwestern Liberia. Bentol is a marketing
and commercial centre for the surrounding agricultural area. Prior to the outbreak of
civil war in the 1990s, its industrial activity included the production of milled rice, sawn wood, soap, plastics,
paints, furniture and fixtures, cement blocks, oils, processed fish, and confections. Bentol’s proximity to Monrovia spurred
its development. According to the latest census Bentol has a population of 1,802 inhabitants. It is
the birth place of the late Liberian President William R. Tolbert.
