A member of the Liberian Ministers Association (LMA) has broken away from the group to form the United Ministers Association
(UMA), a more inclusive association that represents all sectors of the Christian community in the State of Minnesota.
Bishop Dr. Paul Zondo said in 2006 when he joined the LMA, he was initially welcomed with open arms, saying “I was actually
doing well under our former LMA boss [Father James Wilson} until a new leader [Rev. Josef Howard] took office and since then

Four Deaths in Religious Clashes in Liberia
Clashes between Muslims and Christians in northern Liberia have left at least four people dead and 23
seriously wounded, a local government official said Saturday. "I personally counted four
bodies, but this is not necessarily the final toll," said George Tengbeh in the town of Voinjama, 450 kilometres (280

that he is responsible for killings overseas and is in the United States without valid documents. full story

quoting ULAA immigration czar, Michael Wreh. However, after several telephone calls to both the White House and the US

The Season of Lent
The season of Lent has not been well observed in much of evangelical Christianity, largely because it was associated with
"high church" liturgical worship that some churches were eager to reject. However, much of the background of evangelical
Christianity, for example the heritage of John Wesley, was very "high church." Many of the churches that had originally
rejected more formal and deliberate liturgy are now recovering aspects of a larger Christian tradition as a means to refocus

Franken, others Fight for Liberian on DED
Sen. Al Franken and 12 other congressmen signed a letter to the white house Tuesday urging President Obama to extend the Deferred
Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians living legally in the United States the Peoples News has learned. According to KSTP a press release from Minnesota US Senator Al Franken said, "For the
last twenty years, Minnesota has been home to one of the largest Liberian communities in the country," said Sen. Franken.

Senate splits over residency clause for Presidency
Division has emerged in the Senate over the Joint Resolution proposing a Constitutional referendum to amend
certain provisions of the Constitution.
The division relates to the controversial residency clause
contained in Article 52-C of the Liberian Constitution.
It provides that no person shall be eligible to hold the office of President
unless that person is resident in Liberia ten years prior to his election. FULL STORY
Elenilto to Invest $2.4 Billion on Liberian Iron Mines
Elenilto, a unit of Israels Engelinvest Group, will spend $2.4 billion developing Liberias Western Cluster iron ore deposit,
the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy said.
The investment will
allow Elenilto to produce as much as 1.1 billion metric tons of ore, the ministry said in a statement handed to reporters
today in the capital, Monrovia. Elenilto was on Jan. 28 awarded the rights
to develop the Western Cluster project by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. The project consists of three deposits and two
idled mines, which were closed in 1976 and 1985 during Liberias two civil wars, the last of which ended in 2003. full story
Another sister city for Greenville?
It appears Greenville is in the process of adopting its second sister city. Greenville native
Robert Nash met with Mayor Heather Hudson Thursday to discuss a partnership with Greenville, Liberia.
Greenville
is the capital of Sinoe County in Liberia. Founded by former slaves from Mississippi, Greenville is a coastal city that is
trying to recover from years of civil war. Now, leaders from both cities are looking to become trade partners. Greenville, Miss., already has one sister city in Kronach, Germany, but Mayor Hudson is expected to present a proposal
to City Council at Tuesdays meeting to add Greenville, Liberia as a sister city. full story
Episcopal Church of Minnesota has a new bishop
The Rev. Brian Prior was on Saturday, February 13 consecrated as IX Bishop of the Minnesota Episcopal Church in a ceremony
at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Several thousand were in attendance, including Episcopalians from across the state,
bishops and dignitaries from other dioceses of The Episcopal Church, denominational leaders, and local officials. full story
Liberia boosts private enterprise
Liberia has launched a corporate responsibility forum to help rebuild the war-shattered nation. The public
private partnership said "sustainable and responsible business practices" should aid development. "We want
to rebuild the entrepreneurial class in the country," Joseph Mathews, chief of ArcelorMittal Liberia, told BBC News in

23, 2009, President Barack Obama graciously approved of the Deferred Enforced Departure for 12 months, which will officially

UK bans Kenyans over corruption
The UK has issued a travel ban to more than 20 Kenyan citizens accused of corruption, the
High Commissioner says.
Rob Macaire said the ban was a last resort, pointing out that no senior
official had ever been convicted of corruption by a Kenyan court.

CDC VICTORY: A CAUSE TO CELEBRATE OR SOBER REFLECTION
There is a growing euphoria amongst the supporters and sympathizers of George Weah’s Congress for Democratic
Change (CDC) over their recent victory in the Montserrado County Senatorial By-Election.
As is
expected in the aftermath of such grueling political dual, the CDC is emboldened and is eying the 2021 Presidential Contest
with heightened optimism. In fact, some supporters and political pundits are already predicting a big win for CDC in 2012.

FRAUD IN OLM ELECTIONS?

Reports emanating from the just ended OLM Board of Directors elections confirm allegations of massive fraud and ballot tempering. According
to our correspondent, the Chairman of the OLM Election Commission, Mr. T. Benedict Giple to the shock and dismay of the many
Liberian voters, discontinued the counting process after nearly 50% of the counting was completed. Mr. Giple packed up the
ballot boxes and transported them to his residence without announcing when the counting process will result. He claimed that

Liberia's Elections Commissioner Receives Threats
The chairman of Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC), James Fromayan says partisans of football legend George
Weah's Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) party have threatened to burn down his house and eliminate him in the process.
"The CDC people in particular have been the ones making threatening statements about me
at some polling centers," he said. "They were going to burn my home. In fact they had hate messages on their FM
station, King FM which had a whole lot of threatening statements about me." full story
Alfred Coleman Laid to Rest
The remains of Alfred Wady Coleman, III had been laid to rest in Careysburg, Montserrado County following funeral
rites at the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church on Camp Johnson Road, Monrovia the People’s News has learned.
The late Mr. Coleman passed this life on Monday, October 19, 2009 at his home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota following
a protracted period of illness. Our reporter in Monrovia said, the funeral service was officiated by the Rev. Dr. James Sellie,

Liberia's National Elections
Commission (NEC) said it will announce the final results of a highly contested senatorial by-election this Saturday.
The election had been billed as a referendum on the administration of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and
a prelude to the 2011 general elections. But the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), the party
of football legend George Weah called a news conference Thursday to say that its candidate Geraldine Doe-Sheriff had won the

Cross-Examination Begins in War Crimes Trial of Former Liberian President
Prosecutors at the U.N. Special Court for Sierra Leone have begun their cross-examination of former Liberian President Charles
Taylor who is facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

A Liberian opposition leader is accusing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of violating the country's constitution by some of
her appointments and engaging in a patronage system to pave the way for her re-election in 2011.
Charles Brumskine, a former presidential candidate and leader of the opposition Liberty Party, also said President
Sirleaf has acquiesced in the fight against corruption.

Lack of Visionary Leaders: A Critical Look at Liberians in Minnesota
As a founding member of several community-based organizations over the years, I have shouldered lead responsibility for designing
many programs, and in the process, raised more than 100 thousand dollars for services in and out of the Liberian community.
The efficacy of this responsibility means that I have been a change agent. Fortunately, as an educator – and a broadcast
journalist – I have been trained to be service-focused while demanding and providing accountability.
In our community, however, there is a common practice to malign people
that challenge the status quo. Many of us in the last few weeks have noticed, with revulsion, the name-calling and castigation
of certain individuals, including yours truly, by a few Liberian community leaders in Minnesota. FULL STORY
Liberian Community Activist joins Master's degree club
A Liberian community activist and organization in Minnesota is set to receive a Master’s
Degree.
On Sunday, October 11, 2009 Kla M. B. Wilson, II will be receiving
a Master of Arts Degree in
Organizational Leadership, from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The program starts at
3:30 pm at the Zurah Shrine Center in Minneapolis.
Mr. Wilson
has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Management and Human Services. He was presently pursuing another Master
of Arts in Human Development.

TRC Diaspora Advisory Committee Expresses Appreciations

Let me firstly, recognize those members of the Diaspora Advisory Committee who are here (please stand for a brief moment).
Thank you. This Committee included about 40 selected members of Liberian communities in various parts of the United States
(from Philadelphia, Minnesota to California), in England and in Ghana. There were many great suggestions and perspectives
that represented a diverse view of how most Liberians were feeling. In many teleconferences, and in individual or small focused
group consultative meetings, it was clear Liberians were taking charge of what they wanted to see in a final Diaspora report.

JOY WORLD MISSION CHURCH TO CELEBRATE 23 YEARS OF MINISTRY
The oldest Liberian Church in Minnesota, the Joy World Mission Church, will on Sunday, October 4, 2009 hold
a program in celebration of its 23rd anniversary.

The President of the LCM, Mr. Edward William Carter, Jr. celebrated his 50th Birthday. Several relatives and friends attended
the all important event.

Mr. Edward Carter said he was happy to celebrate his 50th Birthday celebration. He said he is most of all grateful to the
almighty God for blessing him to see this day. Mr. Carter pointed out the God was merciful to him for his speedy recovery

COMMUNITY CENTER OR OFFICE SPACE: OLM MISLEADS COMMUNITY

write to express my disappointment with the OLM Leadership’s cheap propaganda that it got a community center for Liberians
in Minnesota. But what Kerper and his group failed to admit is that what they
really got was an Office Suite, not a community center. That was what was easy for any past leader to

An official program marking the 162nd anniversary of Liberia’s National Flag Day has been held at the
Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia, with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Monday joining hundreds of Liberians in a colorful

Citizens Action Conclude OLM Townhall Meeting
Members of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota (OLM) on Sunday, August 16th, rescued a town hall meeting after it was

The Former Mayor of Bentol City in Liberia, Hon. Edward William Carter, Jr. has been admitted into the intensive care

According to family sources, Mayor Carter was rushed to hospital early yesterday following
