The service which is intended to identify with the suffering people of Haiti will have a fund raising component for the victim of the recent Earthquake in that country and will bring several members of the Liberian Christian community together. The prayer Virgil is being organized by Rev. Fr. James of the Episcopal church of Minnesota and Apostle Dr. Beryle Porte of the Miracle Empowerment Center and other members of the Liberian Christian community. A statement issued by the organizers states that, "Normally when tragedy hates communities come together with great compassion to give a helping hand to that broken community in the name of ou r one humanity. So Liberians in Minnesota are called upon to please come together this Sunday January 24th for a prayer vigil and gifts donation (any amount) in support of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Look and see the sorrow! The devastation in Haiti should remind us Liberians of our past when other
communities reached out to us. Coming together as a community when tragedy hates and giving a helping hand are acts of compassion
and good stewardship." Recently a devastating Earthquake stroke the island nation of Haiti leaving several thousand deaths. The latest Haiti Earthquake news has the official death toll at over 70,000 and rising. One week after the 7.0 Haiti Earthquake hit ten miles away from and six miles below the capital city of Port-au-Prince, Haitians and people from around the World have worked to rescue people trapped below the rubble of collapsed buildings. The organizers of the prayer Virgil say this is one way to identify with the people of Haiti and calling upon all members of the Liberian community to attend.
