The National Executive President of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), Dr. Mariah Y. Seton, leads a high-powered delegation of the Union to the U.S. Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. The ULAA delegation will be participating in the Liberian National Immigration Conference, which is described as a "righteous humanitarian effort" and promises to enjoy the participation of "members of the United Congress and Senate."

In an official letter received, the message emphasized that "Equally, our strength…will solidify and illustrate our support for Senator Jack Reed’s Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act (Bill S. 656). Senator Reed’s bill provides modifications to the status of certain Liberian Nationals, converting their temporary status to permanent residents."

The message continued, "I need your support and attendance not only to bring light to the plight of the Liberian citizenry as a whole, but to also appeal to the Obama Administration to extend the status of Liberians currently in the United States; a status which is to expire on March 31, 2010. While simultaneously, addressing the need for a broader immigration reform bill, one that takes into consideration the rights of all immigrant families who have established roots in the United States."

Meanwhile, in an upbeat tone, Dr. Seton, the ULAA Chief Executive, today granted the ULAA Public Affairs Bureau an interview and spoke optimistically about the Liberian Immigration Conference in the U.S. Capitol this week, and accentuated the importance of prayer and hard work, as the crucial moment approaches.

It is worth noting that Dr. Mariah Y. Seton, the ULAA National Executive President, is an outstanding and well-known U.S. based Liberian philanthropist, educator, human rights advocate, and social and political activist. She has many years to her credit in her public service career.

Some members of the ULAA delegation accompanying the ULAA Boss include the duly constituted and constitutionally elected Chairman of the ULAA National Board of Directors, J. Nan Larsah, Jr., Charlotte Henderson of Chicago, Illinois and Chairperson of ULAA Social Services among others.

According to official Congressional information, the Conference will be an all-day event.
