Wesleyan Church begins multi-cultural outreach in Twin Cities Rev. Alphonso Johnson has been installed as a pastor of the Wesleyan Church and Pastor of the newly established, Pilgrim of Christ Ministry. The occasion was held at the church edifice (Oakdale Wesleyan Church) in St. Paul, on Sunday, March 6, 2010 during the regular worship service. The Pilgrim for Christ Ministry in partnership with the Oakdale Wesleyan recently entered into a partnership arrangement to undertake a multi-cultural outreach Ministry to win more souls for Christ. The Pilgrim for Christ Ministry is a non-denominational Ministry with emphasis on fulfilling the great commission: God ye into all the word and preach my Gospel (Making disciples for Christ). Conducting the installation ceremonies of Rev
.Johnson, the District Superintendent of Iowa and Minnesota, Rev. Tim Purcell, charged Rev. Johnson to preach, be an example
to the members, to administer the sacrament, to teach and to endue hardship for the gospel and make more disciples for Christ.
He prayed that Rev. Johnson will be a good pastor to his member and to serve his congregation.
He informed Rev. Johnson and officers and members of the church that they have been officially accepted and approved as a congregation of the Wesleyan church of the United States by the higher authority of the district. In his Sermon, Rev. Alphonso V. Johnson said it does not matter where the gospel is preached, there is a universal message and that is the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. He urged his fellow pastors to preach the gospel in season and out of season. Rev. Johnson frowned on ministers who tend to put other minister down and judge on their own standards. Several Liberian pastors attended the ceremonies. Those in attendance were Rev. Fr. James n. Wilson, rector of the St. Philips Episcopal Church of Saint Paul; Rev. Dr. Josef Howard of the bethel World Outreach Ministries, Rev. Dr. Paul Zondo, Rev. Samuel Vansiah of the Joy world Universal Ministries, Rev. John S. Flomo, Rev. Olive Boye among others.
Wesleyans believe in one God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the Savior of all men and women who put their faith in Him alone for eternal life. They believe that those who receive new life in Christ are called to be holy in character and conduct, and can only live this way by being filled with the Lord's Spirit. Wesleyans believe in the Bible and seek to establish our faith and actions on its teaching. They also believe God wills for people everywhere to know Him and that the purpose of the Church is to tell the world about Christ through its worship, witness, and loving deeds. The Wesleyan Church is a holiness Christian denomination in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Namibia and Australia. The church is part of the holiness movement and has roots in the teachings of John Wesley. The church is Wesleyan and Arminian in doctrine
The Wesleyan Church has over 411,000 adherents in over 5,000 churches worldwide and is active in almost 100 nations.
As of 2005, in the United States there were 128,385 members in 1,626 congregations. In the United States, membership is concentrated
in the Midwest. Wesleyan Life is the official publication. The Wesleyan Church world headquarters is in Fishers,
Indiana. Because John Wesley was an important minister in the formation of Methodist doctrine, "Wesleyan"
has been used in the title of a number of historic and current denominations, although the current Wesleyan Church
is the only denomination to use that specific title.
