"VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE" AWAITS OLM BOARD IF…

By Augustus Toomey

The the Yaskey group of OLM Board has been warned to accept the decision of the community to reinstate John Tarley as Board Chairman or face some consequences, the Peoples News has learned.

Several members of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota (OLM) who voted to restore John Tarley have called up the People’s News desk to make clear that members of the board must respect their decision or they will have no alternative but remove the board or any one who stands in the way.

In his reaction to the decision, James Robert of New Hope Minnesota said they are taking this decision not necessarily because of John Tarley but because of justice and fair play in the community. He said it makes the community appreciate ugly to hear that the people who ought to provide leadership are acting like novices.

Mary Jerry told our reporter that the Community Intervention Community’s report clearly and professionally outlined the unconstitutionality of the board’s action. She said she is ready to vote any day, the "Vote of no confidence" is introduced. They must honor the decision of the people or they will have themselves to blame.

Mr. Alfred Browne said, "we would not have not intervened if it was something else or the board had carried out the removal by observing due process and or adhering to the OLM constitution." He pointed out that the community cannot sit back and allows any members of the board to be removed without a cause or due process. He emphasized that they already have sufficient signatures to a petition to remove the entire board or any member of the board who will not respect our decision. We have spoken and the board must honor our decision or they will feel the wrath of the community, he added.

James Saydee of St. Paul says the board needs to apologize to the community for their gross disrespect and insubordination to the community by refusing to honor their invitation. He said this board needs to be taught a lesson they will always remember.

For his part Mr. Robert Davies of Brooklyn Park said he would like to thank the Community Intervention Committee (CIC) for professional manner in which they conducted the process leading to the resolution of the conflict on the board. He said they earned his respect. He therefore added, I pray that the members of the Board honor the will and wishes of the people.

Recently the OLM Board Chairman, Mr. John Tarley was allegedly removed unconstitutionally and replaced in early January with the Mr. Clarence Yaskey, the man whom he (Tarley) defeated during the Board leadership election. Without any due process they hastily and irrationally acted to remove the chairman of the board especially while he was ill. However, members of the Liberian community in Minnesota voted over the weekend to restore Mr. Tarley as chairman of the Board of Directors.
