ULAA attend LCANJ honoring Program, holds consultative meeting

A high power delegation of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) was guest of the Liberian Community Association of ulaa_Collage.jpgNorth Jersey recently for an honoring program and to hold consultative meeting with the outgoing and newly elected officers.

As part of the delegation was ULAA Board, Hon. James Larsah; ULAA National Executive Vice President and president of the Liberian Community of Rhode Island, Hon. Nellie Francis Sirleaf Savice; Hon. Benoni Tarr Grimes, Chairman of the ULAA Mediation Community and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Liberian Community in Minnesota, and Mr. Kulah Boayue, President of the Liberian Community Association of Delaware Valley. The program and meeting were held at the Mediterranean Manor on 225 Jefferson Avenue, Newark in New Jersey.

Several distinguished personalities of the community were honored for dedicated and selfless services and contribution to the community over the last couple of years. The honorees were presented with beautiful certificates and diplomas.

During the ceremony, the President of the Liberian Community of North Jersey, Mr. Robert Smallwood paid tribute to the honorees and describes them as heroes of the community.

Mr. Smallwood pointed out that even though they were of many different ages and have all kinds of jobs and interests, he was certain that they all have one thing in common, their selfless and dedicated services. He said the admiration for the job they did will be forever cherished and remembered.

The Guest Speaker for the Occasion was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Liberian Embassy, Hon. Edwin Sele, who called upon Liberians in the United States and elsewhere in the diaspora to put aside their differences and unite. He said it a shame that Liberians cannot hold an election with conflicts that leads to division.

During special consultative meeting held between and amongst the ULAA delegation and the incoming and outgoing leadership of LCANJ, the two bodies agreed to work together to meet the need of the Liberian people in the diaspora and fester peace and unity in the Liberian Community.

Meanwhile, the newly elected officers of the community are expected to be conducted into their respective offices on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Essex County Surrogate Court in Newark, New Jersey. The ceremony will be conducted by Honorable Theodore N. Stephens, II., Presiding Judge of the Court.

Those to be inducted are Mr. Emmett G. Trinity President-Elect of LCANJ (commonly known as "POLO)' Nasir Bilal, Vice President; Sekou Sheriff, General Secretary; Al Jabateh, Treasurer; Ingrid Nagbe, Financial Secretary; Joshua William, Parliamentarian;and Stanly Summerville, Chaplain.

Those elected on the Board of Directors were Varney Kromah, Victoria Sherman- Britts, Marilyn Clinton, Margaret Nah, J. Bosco Johnson, Evelyn Jones and Saadatu Lynch. On the Judiciary Committee are Bendu Sanoh, Bertha Nyewah, Helena Roberts and Mary Deshield.

The elections of the officers were held on Saturday, December 17, 2011, under the Chairmanship of the LCANJ Elections Commission of the Community, Hon. Augustus Koiquah.
