SAINT
PAUL MAYOR CHRISTOPHER COLEMAN APPEALS FOR LIBERIANS ON TPS The Mayor of Saint Paul, Christopher Coleman has added his voice to many appeals to President Barack Obama and the US
Congress to extend the TPS for Liberians in the Twin cities and across the country. Mayor Coleman made the plead when a delegation of the
Liberian Community in Saint Paul, MN (LCM) paid him a visit. The President of the Liberian Community of Minnesota/St Paul,
Mr. Edward William Carter assured the Mayor Coleman of LCM preparedness to partner with the city of St. Paul in its efforts
to build a diverse and inclusive community environment to spur growth and development amongst all of its inhabitants. Speaking recently when a two-man representative
delegation which included the Chairman of LCM Board of Directors, Hon. Benoni Tarr Grimes paid a courtesy call on Mayor Coleman,
the LCM chief Executive praised His Lordship for his recent “Strategic and Sustainable Neighborhood Initiative”
and “Vendor Outreach Program (VOP), “both of whom are intended to involve minority groups, particularly African
immigrant communities in the public contracting system and promote growth and development amongst all residents of the City
of Saint Paul. Further
speaking, Mr. Carter noted that Liberians as one of the oldest African Immigrants Communities in St. Paul, have been constructively
and productively engaged with the city for over fifty years, and are prepare more than every before to partner with
Mayor Coleman in his vision to make St Paul a “more livable city in America. “ The LCM boss also used the occasion to solicit
Mayors Coleman’s support for the ongoing Liberian Immigration struggle, as well as requested Mayor’s Coleman’s
support for a Soccer Tournament to be organized by LCM to create awareness amongst the African Immigrant Communities about
the city’s diversity programs. Speaking earlier, Mayor Coleman welcomed the delegation to his office, and observed that
city hall was cognizant of the many contributions being made by the Liberians Immigrant community in the areas of health,
infrastructural growth and education. He stressed the need for more minority groups’ involvement in the activities of the city and
assured the delegation of City Hall Commitment and support for the Soccer Tournament, as well as the ongoing immigration struggle.
He promised to contact his state Congressional leaders to encourage them to lend their support to the initiative. Also Present during the deliberation was the
Chief of Staff of the Mayor’s Office, Mrs. Sara Grewing.
