Mount Airy holds successful Anniversary The Mount Airy Social Club based in Saint Paul, MN over the weekend held what is described as a successful 10th Anniversary program in Minnesota. The program was held at the Anoka Knights of Columbus in the city of Anoka. The event brought together several members of the organization and well wishers from the Liberian community. Three of the founding members were honored for the farsighted leadership. Those honored were the president, Mr. Abel Zarzar, The Financial Secretary, Mrs. Cecilia Harmon, and Mr. Christopher Wisner. Mr. Zubah Kpanuku who served as Key Note Speaker congratulated the officers and members of the Mount Airy Club for sustaining the organization over the decade and encouraged them to continue the good work. He admonished them to not light off, but to continue to make accountability, transparency and cooperation the hallmark of their mission. The Mount Airy Social Club was founded in 2001 out of an idea was born by Chris Wisner which he shared with Ms. Cecilia Harmon. The idea was transformed into a community organization that will be of help to friends and neighbors, especially at the time most Liberians had to send money back home during the Christmas season. It would be a reservoir to save money for rainy days and a pool where friend contributed into to help friends. Mount Airy is a registered non-for-profit organization with the state of Minnesota. It provides for a poll where members voluntarily contribute money to help each-other in times of need. At the end of the year, the money is shared according to what was contributed. The aim and objectives of this association are: To bring together Liberians and other residents of Minnesota for the purpose of improving socioeconomic growth and development. Socially stimulate and promote unity and understanding amongst ourselves.
